Do I need an Android phone to use the Android Head Unit?
When it comes Android Head Units, there is a common misconception that they require a phone for operation. However, this is not true. The Head Unit itself runs on Android, which is a system created by Google and used in many devices. It functions as a standalone system and works perfectly without the need of a phone at all.
The system supports connection to both Apple iPhones and Android Phones for Bluetooth Audio, Screen Mirroring, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto (and more) however without a phone you can still use all functions such as Spotify, YouTube, Radio, Navigation.
Some apps may require an internet connection which can be setup by inserting a SIM card into the unit, or Wireless Hotspot sharing. Without an internet connection you may need to use offline mode. You can still access most functions such as navigation and radio in offline mode.
Will I lose the functions from the original BMW radio?
Rest assured, the entire original BMW system is maintained and accessible through the new display. If you ever need to access information such as servicing details or specific functions related to your vehicle, you can easily switch back to the original menu.
